“Like it or not, Winter told me to look after the family… but could I borrow 50k? I’ve gotta pay rent.”
Lia was born to Sakura Mawji and Dae-Hyung Gim as the eldest sibling, her younger brother Den arriving 18 months later. They were both left in their mother’s custody following their parents divorce but Sakura soon fell into alcoholism and became abusive. Lia shielded Den as long as she could from the abuse their mother put them through, eventually Den was taken into custody by Yumi Jaibatsume who opted to look after the child in Sakura’s ‘innocent plea for help’ which left them separated, Lia under the continued care of her own abusive mother; Lia spent the next eight years making multiple attempts at escaping her mother and one day, at the age of 13, she succeeded, finding herself in Karakura.
By chance, Lia befriended Mee-young Jaibatsume but quickly took notice to the strange shifts in her demeanour, often accompanied by gaps in her memory; she brought this odd behaviour up to Mee-young which ultimately lead to her diagnosis of Dissociative Identity Disorder. Over time, Lia took on the leadership role of the Celestial Family, a responsibility entrusted to her by Winter Celestiasume; fiercely protective of those she considers family, she has clashed with Mee-young on multiple occasions and has even put herself in harm’s way for the sake of her family.
Beyond her family ties, Lia is a passionate - if slightly obsessive, young woman with a deep interest in the occult and journalism. Her love for broadcasting led her to join Karakura High School’s radio show as a co-host alongside Mee-Young. Over time, she took over as the show’s main host, cementing her voice in Karakura’s media scene.
